Our democratic values
In November 2024, the Alliance for Democracy network exchanged views on the shared values of its members as well as the critical developments in our society and for our democracy. This resulted in a concrete catalogue of values that describes what the alliance stands for and what it clearly rejects, as well as a list of developments that could pose a threat to our democracy. The alliance is committed to a new consensus on values.
What holds us together?
The network members wish:
more togetherness, cooperation, commitment to and solidarity with the common good,
mutual understanding and respect , more openness and tolerance for each other and the acceptance of diversity in all areas of life,
… that rights and duties are lived equally responsibly by every individual ,
… that each individual takes more responsibility for his own actions and for the common good, sees himself as a role model for society and thus assumes social responsibility,
social justice for every individual,
a sensible, sustainable and responsible approach to our environment and nature.

What endangers our democracy and thus our freedom?
The workshop participants view the following developments critically:
Behavior in society is becoming more and more radical and extremist.
Our previous consensus on values, which has been anchored in our constitution for decades, is dissolving.
Our values are increasingly no longer playing a role in everyday life and social media provide space for disrespect, hatred, incitement and disregard for our values.
The growing wealth gap leads to debates about envy and a lack of solidarity.
Fear of loss leads to isolation and exclusion.
Increasing mobility reduces ties to local communities.
We feel that our freedom and ability to act is severely limited by bureaucracy.
